Victim: Jim Ward

Police have charged a 62 year old man from Rowde with the attempted murder of solicitor Jim Ward.

Wiltshire Police have confirmed that they've charged Michael Raymond Chudley with attempted murder, threats to kill, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and carrying a firearm with criminal intent.

The charges are in connection with the shooting of solicitor Jim Ward, who was shot in the head at his office in Devizes on Monday afternoon.

Mr Ward is currently being treated for serious head injuries at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

Chudley was remanded in custody after appearing at Salisbury Magistrates Court this morning and is due to appear at Winchester Crown Court in two weeks time.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Saunders said: "I can't go into detail of their relationship, it is safe to say that they were not strangers, and obviously part of the investigation is focused around establishing what motive, if any, lead to this shooting taking place.
